The main goal of this project is to build a network of coworking spaces across Central Finland. This kind of network could offer different types of coworking spaces, which all have their own emphases. Remote workers could also move from one hub to another depending on their work situation. In addition, the project advances the supply of higher education in rural areas through cooperation with open universities.
The project aims to kickstart the cooperation network's activities so that at the end of the project the network includes hubs across the region. In addition the aim is to enhance life-long learning and get active educational cooperation running in several hubs.

English language abstract of the project’s activities and results
Pihtipudas municipality (main contractor) and the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä, JYUOpen, (subcontractor) had a common project Wanna Hub? The project ”Developing of a co-operation network of community workspaces in Central Finland and responding to regional training needs through open higher education” had three different work packages.
The main goals of the project were to build a network of co-working spaces across Central Finland and to respond to regional skills and training needs by offering higher education and university know-how, and to improve access to higher education by supporting the local economic structure.
WORK PACKAGE 1 Building a network of community workspaces
The first work package was to build a network of community workspaces. We networked with near-by community workspaces. In order to achieve its goals, the project organized needs-based coaching for community managers and interest groups, as well as webinars and events for target groups.
WORK PACKAGE 2 Activation of educational co-operation with units providing higher education
The project carried out regional surveys concerning the needs for university studies. The project worker also organized information sessions to present the study offer of the open university. In order to achieve the goals, surveys were conducted in different regions to map the need for studies. On the basis of these, the basic study units of the Open University were introduced to the regional study offer. In addition, new short-term study packages were designed for the rapid development of competence. Here, the target group was people of working age.
We also conducted qualitative company interviews with the largest employers in the regions. This created a better understanding of how to better meet the need for continuous learning of companies and working life in the future through supplying open university education.
The project carried out an educational needs survey to find out the region's educational needs, as well as qualitative business interviews to examine the need for companies and working life to develop and renew skills at different stages of people’s lives and careers through open university provision. A community workspace was launched in Pihtipudas and new operating models were piloted.
WORK PACKAGE 3 Launching a community workspace in Pihtipudas and piloting new operating models
Due to the Covid19, the third work package could not be started until June 2022. Vacant premises in Pihtipudas were surveyed to establish a communal work space. Based on the contents of the tenders and the project application, SK Properties was selected as the space. The premises used to have a pharmacy and a driving school, so the premises had to be renovated and fiber-optic connections installed. The opening of HUBteek was held on August 28, 2020. During the project, the requirement for a good teleworking site and the experience of teleworking were piloted. From this, three different visual representations were summarized (separate appendix).
As a result of the project, a network of community workspaces was created in Central Finland, a website for remote workspaces and a brochure, and coaching for community managers and partners.
